Big BIG News Over at The Weekend Grillers Site

Blake and Kelsey at the Mall Photo BoothPeople are going absolutely bonkers over the Big BIG News at the Weekend Grillers!  ;)

In the past few weeks the Weekend Grillers have been fortunate to add several big names from the World of BBQ to our ranks. Alien BBQ, Bill Anderson, Chris G. — all are known and respected on the forums and in competition.

But in all corners of the BBQ World there is one name that stands above all others –

Stephen Raichlen

– and he is now on The Weekend Grillers!

Mr. Raichlen is the author of The Barbecue Bible, BBQ USA, How to Grill, Beer-Can Chicken, Ribs, Ribs, Ribs and More. He is the founder of Barbeque University and host of The Primal Grill (starting May 2008) and Barbecue University TV shows on PBS. In August, 2003, he even battled — and defeated — Iron Chef Roksbura Michiba in a barbecue battle on the Japanese Iron Chef. He is a hell of a nice guy, too.

The Grillers will be featuring recipes and techniques from this master-of-the-masters — about one per week. Each article will feature a link to purchase one of Mr. Raichlen’s books. If you like what you read, buy his books. You won’t be sorry.

The Master of teaching BBQ is starting us off right with First Timers Ribs

Told you it was Big!

It’s Just about that time of Year Again

ZeekIt’s just about that time of year again.

Time to start working on the yard.

Have you checked out Everyday Landscaping lately.  Red and I have updated the site to make it more user friendly.  Red was never comfortable with the ‘blog” format.  He didn’t like that how it was all on one page and how every entry was dated.  He’s not ever going to write everyday and it shows on a blog.

The new ‘website’ format is much better.  He likes it and I think his target audience will be more comfortable with it.  It’s right purty, too if I may say so myself

I have even (finally) convinced him that he doesn’t have to write every page.  So we have already included a couple of pages about herb gardens (something Red’s wife, Dorothy, know about but he could not care less.)

Check out Everyday Landscaping today and keep checking back frequently.  I have several more pages to put up and I think the Springtime will get Red’s creative juice flowing, too.

New Sites for My Everyday Life

Skylar and her tongueIt’s been a while since I have updated My Everyday Life.  But I have a good reason for it.  Or more precisely — 4 good reasons.

Reason #1The Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog

I have been so busy with the March Promotion over at Copycat that I have had to let my other blogs slide.  If you haven’t checked out The Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog or the March Promotion you are missing out on a really good time and some really delicious recipes.

At The Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog
we post make-at-home versions of your restaurant favorites that —well, you can make at home. Some of the favorites we have posted in the past are: Outback Steakhouse’s Blooming Onion and Alice Springs Chicken, Olive Garden’s Olive Garden’s Spaghetti Carbonara and Chicken Marsala, Applebee’s Baby Back Ribs and, even, McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce. Plus many, many, MANY more.

In fact, during the month of March we have been posting at least one recipe each day.

Not only have we offered a new recipe (or more) each day but also a new downloadable cookbook, each and everyday. By the end of March we will have 31 free downloadable cookbooks available for anyone who wants them. All you have to do is visit The Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog and follow the instructions to get your free recipes and cookbooks.

Reasons #2, 3 and 4 — Not one, not two, but THREE New Additions to the My Everyday Life Family of Websites

#2 — Julie Miklaszewicz joins “da Family” in a couple of different roles.  We are proud to have her website RVOutpost.com as a part of our Travel Lineup and to have Julie as our new Camping and Camp Cooking Guru on The Weekend Grillers (read her first article on the joys of Pie Irons HERE).  She is also going to be contributing her party expertise to our up coming Everyday Parties site.   Welcome Julie and RV Outpost

#3Stop Smoking NOW!  My Everyday Life’s health Guru, James London-DeVasher’s new site will help you break this nasty habit with articles, tips and programs that will help you help yourself.  Visit our sponsors for more information and indepth knowledge.  Let us help you to Stop Smoking NOW!

#4 — Knock Out Acne  — Acne is not just a problem for teenagers.  True it is more common among youths but it can affect us our entire lives, destroying our self image and confidence.  Learn the latest treatment methods and prevention techniques at Knock Out Acne.   Another Everyday Life site by James London-DeVasher.

And, yes, the last two do have the same basic header.  I created them for James and I TOLD you I had been busy.  I’m just thankful he started using X-Site Pro like I asked instead of his homemade code like on the Backpain and Snoring sites.

I kinda like the headers, though.  What do you think?

Introducing EVERYDAY LISTS!

Everyday Lists Last Friday I mentioned a couple of new site concepts we were working on.  Well one of them was a lot closer to being finished than I thought.

 In fact, it’s finished now!

Everyday Lists is up and running and ready for visitors.

Check it out at http://myeverydaylife.net/lists/

“Just what is an Everyday List?”

It’s a little hard to explain exactly what an everyday list is but once you “get it” you’re gonna love this site and wonder how you ever got along without it.

An everyday list is one of those small lists you make to help you get through the day or remember something important to you.  The most popular is the grocery list.  But other examples include party lists, vacation lists  and many more.

But with Everyday Lists we will  go beyond the simple lists — way beyond.  You will soon find forms and record keeping books.  Forms for moving and studying, business and pleasure and more.   Record keeping books include restaurants, beers, barbeque sauces (from our friends at The Weekend Grillers), travel and many more.

In the future we hope to include many forms requested by readers.

“But just why do I need Everyday Lists (the website)”

Because, again, we’ve gone beyond the simple lists — way beyond.  You will find lists here for everything from Hot Sauces to Record Albums.  From Moving Boxes to Books You’ve Read.  We’ve got list here (or on the way) for so many parts of your life you’ll wonder how you ever got along without them (and us!).  We’ve got lists you didn’t even know you needed.

All the forms are FREE and in easily downloadable and printable PDF format.  Download any form you want and print it out or  save it to a disc or thumbdrive and take it Kinko’s and have them do it for you.

I know all this sounds very strange and a bit unusual — but just give us a chance and look around a bit.  We think you’ll get the picture and fall in love with Everyday Lists and the time they will save you and enjoyment they will give you.

Our first list is ready for you –

List #1 - EVERYDAY GROCERY LIST

Let’s get this started with the most universal of all lists - the Grocery List.  It’s quite possible that every person in the world has made one of these at least once in their life.

We make them on notepads, post-it notes, backs of envelopes and anything else we can find.  Not anymore.

With the Everyday Grocery List you can see at a glance exactly what you need and never forget something important again.

The list is arranged in alphabetical order (for the most part) and is very comprehensive.  We have tried to include everything that you go to the grocery for on an everyday basis.  However, if we have forgotten anything, please let us know.  We’ll fix it immediately.

Download the Everyday Grocery List, print some out and tack one to the Refrigerator.  Keep adding to it as you see something you need and then take it to the grocery.

One last thing — do us a favor and leave all your lists in the baskets as you finish.  Let the next person know about Everyday List so they too can enjoy the convenience and fun.

Go to Everyday Lists now and check it out.  Download the Grocery List and leave us a comment.  Request a list or form if you like.

Spotlight On Roadfood Blog

I’ve just got to spotlight what is fast becoming one of my favorite sites to write.  It isn’t very old yet but I am having an absolute blast with The Roadfood Blog.

Rendezvous RibsThe blog is new but I have been a fan of roadfood and Roadfood for many years.  For those who are unfamilier with the small ”r” and capital “R” roadfoods (or Roadfoods?) let me offer this from the blog:

What is Roadfood?

It is:

1. Great regional meals along highways, in small towns and in city neighborhoods. It is sleeves-up food made by cooks, bakers, pitmasters, and sandwich-makers who are America’s culinary folk artists. Roadfood is almost always informal and inexpensive; and the best Roadfood restaurants are colorful places enjoyed by locals (and savvy travelers) for their character as well as their menu.

2. A delicious set of books by Jane and Micheal Stern in praise of the delicacies of the highways and small towns.

3. A multi-media love affair with food featured in magazines (Gourmet’s “Two for the Road” Column), radio (NPR’s “The Splendid Table”) and the internet (Roadfood.com).

4. The best reason to travel.

It is all of these and more.

And now it’s a blog from My Everyday Life.

It’s my record, from the past and ongoing, of some of the best food I have eaten in America.  So far I have covered just three restaurants, Mike Linnig’s in Louisville, Charlie Vergo’s Rendezvous in Memphis and In-N-Out Burgers of Southern California, but I have plans for MANY more.

I first became aware of Jane and Michael about 10 years ago and every since I have not started on any trip without consulting their books, and later the Roadfood Website, before I pack my first suitcase.  They have never steered me wrong and I hope to keep up the tradition with you.

Check out Jane and Michael Stern’s Roadfood and My Roadfood Blog and enjoy some true American Food.

Updates for February 22nd, 2008

Hope everyone is having a good day today.  We are buried in our 2nd big ice storm of the year.  Those up North will laugh at it, but for us in Kentucky, almost ANY ice is a big deal.  Here is a picture:

Light with IceMeanwhile, over at the Everyday Landscaping site, Red is getting ready for Spring and Summer by telling (or more to the point — warning) weekend landscapers what to expect if they decide they want to turn their enjoyable hobby into a business.  Must reading if this thought has ever occured to you.

We have a new page on Everyday Homebrewing — It’s a bit of a departure from the other pages in that it doesn’t talk about homebrewing as such.  It’s all about Beer Culture Around the World.  It’s quite an interesting read.  Check it out.

Been working on a couple of new concepts lately.  Neither is ready for prime time yet but both are coming along nicely.

The first is a collection of lists, forms and record books for — you guessed it — Everyday Life.  I love recording the things I do — restaurants (see my Roadfood Blog), vacation trips (see my 1000 Places Blog), recipes (see my Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog) and what not and think, by looking around the web, that I am not alone in this.  I have found several good sites that have record pages but no site that has ALL the pages in one place.  So I feel their is a need for this.  What do you think?

The second is an Adult Party Website.  Not “Adult” as in sexual (although there’s nothing wrong with that) but adult as in how we REALLY party.  Maybe a better term would be “Everyday Party”.  Hey! How do you like that?!  Anyway, every party website I go to tells me to play silly games or dress up like Gilligan to have a good time.  I don’t know about you but this in NOT how we really party.  Most of our parties just involve good friends, good food, good drink and good conversation.  Good times.  What do you think of this idea?

And Finally over at the Best Copycat Restaurant Recipes Blog we are featuring this much loved recipe:

Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Ingredients

2 cups Bisquick
½ cup cold Water
¾ cup grated, Sharp Cheddar Cheese
¼ cup Butter
1 teaspoon Parsley Flakes
½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
½ teaspoon Italian Seasoning

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Mix together baking mix, cold water, and grated cheese.
3. Roll out biscuits in a floured surface. Biscuits should be approximately one inch thick.
4. Cut biscuits with a cutter.
5. Place onto an un-greased baking dish.
6. Melt butter and seasonings together.
7. Brush biscuits with the butter and spices
8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Updates for February 20th, 2008

We’ve added an important page to Getting a Good Nights Sleep - Stop Snoring.

Below is the page.  Check out Getting a Good Nights Sleep - Stop Snoring for more information:

Are Morning Headaches and Snoring Connected?

They definitely can be.

If you’re very tired when you first wake up, there could be many reasons. For example, persons with hypoglycemia or other blood sugar problems may need some protein to get their blood sugar back to normal after having not eaten for eight or more hours. Or you may be a night person who just doesn’t enjoy the mornings. Many times we wake up dehydrated and a big glass of water or cup of coffee can get us back to normal very quickly.

But for many, it’s more than just being tired. Many people experience frequent severe morning headaches. Often snoring to blame. But why the connection between the two?

Why does snoring cause morning headaches?

One of the reasons that morning headaches and snoring are connected is that the person snoring has sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a very dangerous condition wherein someone actually stops breathing for a few moments because of restricted airflow. They then wake up just long enough for the body to force itself to start breathing again and are typically not awake long enough to even know that their sleep has been interrupted. When caused by sleep apnea the connection between morning headaches and snoring is because the brain is literally starved of needed oxygen over and over again throughout the night. If left unchecked this condition can actually cause slight brain damage so it’s no wonder that a person would get morning headaches from this! Sleep apnea is very common in persons who are overweight as this excess body fat puts undue pressure on the neck and cuts off the airway.

Most persons who have it do not even know that they have sleep apnea. Considering how dangerous it is, if you have morning headaches and snoring problems, and especially if you are overweight, you may want to talk to your doctor immediately about medical intervention or treatment options.

Other Causes

Another reason that morning headaches and snoring are connected is because if a person snores very loudly or deeply, they are actually hurting their own head. That constant vibration of the dry tissue of the throat can cause damage to the entire back of the neck and head giving a person a headache.

And of course chronic sleeplessness is another cause for morning headaches and snoring is a big cause of sleeplessness. If you’re trying to sleep next to someone that is a chronic snorer, you are probably very sleep deprived, whether you know it or not. Fatigue, irritability, restlessness, inability to concentrate, and falling asleep at inappropriate times are other symptoms of insomnia much like morning headaches. And snoring is a leading interrupter of sleep, not just for the snorer, but for those next to him or her.

If you’re experiencing constant morning headaches, you should consult with your doctor. There may be other health concerns and issues that are causing them of course, but morning headaches and snoring are very common. These headaches can be part of other serious health problems that you may be having, or may be at risk of having, if you do not address your snoring issues immediately.
